About LOREWEAVER PUBLICATIONS:
Founded in January, 2023, LOREWEAVER PUBLICATIONS began as an independent small press publishing label, created specifically to house the works of author/illustrator J. S. Norstein. Along the way, it grew into a dream too deeply personal to continue discussing in the third person:
In the course of learning the variety of skills and tools I would need to publish my debut novel, I realized my passion was for more than merely the words or the artwork. I’ve found profound joy and fulfillment in every part of the publishing process, from book cover design to manuscript layout and formatting to line editing, to social media promotion.
Then, in researching market trends and interacting with industry professionals and fellow creators, I realized that the problems I faced as a full-time creative, namely struggling to cover the costs of rent and groceries and still find the time to hone my craft, is an extremely common plight among those who dabble in the narrative arts. Mastering our craft inherently takes time and flexibility of circumstance to be able to make mistakes, yet for many of us, these things are luxuries we can’t afford. This is wrong to me.
I believe that for creatively-driven individuals, the freedom to hone and develop the skills of their art form, and ready access to the essential tools and resources of their craft, should be an inalienable right.
LOREWEAVER: a house built of creatives, by creatives, and for creatives:
In its present state, LOREWEAVER is an experimental publishing project, beginning with one man wearing many, many hats; learning as much of everything that goes into the process of producing a book start to finish, as can fit into his brain.
It will become so much more.
The dream is this:
I want to establish a true and enduring safe space for storytellers from all walks of life to refine their craft, free to make mistakes and learn without undue harsh judgment or crippling financial consequence.
Something of a cross between a cooperative artist’s collective, multifaceted trade apprenticeship program, standalone marketing and publicity firm, intellectual property reference library, and the kind of collaborative venture most typically seen in comic book production.
Literary Craft. Graphic Design. Editing. Formatting. Marketing and Promotional Strategy. Intellectual Property and contract law. I’ve had to learn (and am still learning) something of all of this. I want to share all of the knowledge and tools I’ve learned to use along the way.
No doubt you have many questions as to how all these disparate parts of an idea coalesce to form a productive whole. Me too– I’ll be updating this section pretty frequently as, in the coming months and years, the answers become apparent.
For now, welcome to the beginning.
—J. S. Norstein
